Bunga Tapak Dara ( Rosy Periwinkle)

Bunga Tapak Dara ( Rosy Periwinkle)

Catharanthus roseus

Family: Apocynaceae
Form: Herb / Vine
Origin: Native to Madagascar

Weed Type(s): Weed, Naturalised, Introduced, Garden Escape, Environmental Weed, Cultivation Escape

Bunga Tapak Dara /Catharanthus roseus is a fleshy perennial growing to 32 in (80 cm) high. It has glossy, dark green, oval leaves (1-2 inches long) and flowers all summer long.

The blooms of the natural wild plants are a pale pink with a purple "eye" in their centers.

The plant has historically been used to treat a wide assortment of diseases. It was used as a folk remedy for Diabetes in Europe for centuries. In India, juice from the leaves was used to treat wasp stings. In Hawaii, the plant was boiled to make a poultice to stop bleeding. In China, it was used as an astringent, diuretic and cough remedy. In Central and South America, it was used as a homemade cold remedy to ease lung congestion and inflammation and sore throats. Throughout the Caribbean, an extract from the flowers was used to make a solution to treat eye irritation and infections.

It also had a reputation as a magic plant; Europeans thought it could ward off evil spirits, and the French referred to it as "violet of the sorcerers."

Amaryllis Flower

I have Amaryllis at home. I took pictures of them every day from the early beginning until all had blossoms.

They look tropical and exotic; large, lily-like trumpet blooms on tall, straight stems, with a base of strappy leaves.
The amaryllis comes in many beautiful varieties including various shades of red, white, pink, salmon and orange. There are also many striped and multicolored varieties, usually combining shades of pink or red with white. Of all flowering bulbs, amaryllis are the easiest to bring to bloom. This can be accomplished indoors or out, and over an extended period of time.

Amaryllis Care:
After the amaryllis has stopped flowering, it can be made to flower again. Cut the old flowers from the stem after flowering, and when the stem starts to sag, cut it back to the top of the bulb.
Continue to water and fertilize as normal. When the leaves begin to yellow, which normally occurs in the early fall, cut the leaves back to about 2 inches from the top of the bulb and remove the bulb from the soil.

ANTHURIUM

I have Anthurium (family Areacea) trees in my house, the leaves of Anthurium is really beautiful.
Anthuriums are relatively easy to grow. Anthurium plants love shade and mostly grow in shaded areas. They are usually grown in shade houses while some growers have a fern tree forest and plant the anthuriums underneath the trees. Anthuriums grow equally well in pots as well as in the ground.
